A deciduous shrub with medium green foliage and clusters of tiny, creamy-white, springtime flowers. During fall, foliage transforms to bright red before falling, revealing striking, scarlet red branches. This species makes a spectacular single specimen, or informal hedge when planted in greater numbers.

An espalier is a plant trained to grow in a two-dimensional form against a trellis.
