A succulent shrub with upright, pencil-like stems that are golden green at the base, and transition through shades of golden yellow, yellow-orange, and red-orange, with the most vibrant scarlet red at the tips. Leaves and flowers of this species are inconspicuous, as it is prized for its dramatic coloring. All parts of this plant contain a caustic, milky sap that seeps out when cut, and is known to cause burns and welts. Sap is toxic to dogs, cats, other animals, and humans. This is a charming, large-scale succulent for rock gardens, succulent borders, and beds.
